This excerpt from Charly Chaplins magnificent movie ‘The Great Dictator’ shows Charlie Chaplin in the (double) role of a jewish barber that gets confused for Adenoyd Hinkel, the dictator of Tomania.
The Great Dictator was released in 1940 – and can only be called a masterpiece. This movie will have you laughing out loud within the first minute and lets you down with this very deep and meaningful speech that should have resonated within humanity until that day. Well, it has – and various edits of the speech exist on youtube, most of them garnered with the excellent ‘Time’ by Hans Zimmer. Comment which one you like best.
The speech has not lost its relevance over now 75 years.
