Britain is on the forefront of public video surveillance – and many artists have taken a stance against this controversial scrutinisation of public life.

German web developer Felix Delattre has discovered the true purpose of the miriad of CCTV cameras peppered over Britains major cities – leave your smartphones at home – use CCTV instead!

The law allows people to request their own CCTV footage – it has to be delivered within 40 days and must not cost more than £10.

Felix visited the Royal Observatory in Greenwich and figured that this would be the time and place for a memento – all he had to do was to write a letter to the company operating the CCTV, referencing the UK Data Protection Act and provide date and time of the taken footage:
